Native Indigenous Centered Education (NICE)

The Omaha Public Schools Native Indigenous Centered Education (NICE) program strives to educate and empower Indigenous students, families and communities to seek and achieve holistic well-being through advocacy, cultural strengths and academic excellence. NICE is a Title VI federally funded program to support the efforts of local education agencies, Indian tribes and organizations and other agencies.
NICE is an academic program with a cultural component:- To meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of Native American/Alaska Native students, so that such students can meet the challenging state standards.
- To ensure that American Indian/Alaskan Native students gain knowledge and understanding of Native communities, language, tribal history, tradition and culture.
- To ensure that educators, school leaders and others who serve American Indian/Alaskan Native students have the ability to provide culturally appropriate and effective instruction and support to such students.
NICE staff provide support services including:- Grade and attendance checks
- Cultural enrichment
- STEM enrichment - YES program
- Educational and cultural field trips
- College testing prep
- College/Vocational/Military pathway assistance
- Elementary and secondary transitional services
- College field trips
- School supply distribution
- Parents/Guardian committee
- Home visits
- SAT/IEP/MDT meeting support
- Community resource referrals
- School and community services coordination
- Homework assistance
- Social Emotional Learning opportunities

If you would like your child involved with the NICE program, please fill out the 506 form and return it to the NICE program or the school your child attends.
