Omaha Public Schools is proud to provide nutritionally balanced meals for our students. We know proper nutrition is important for the growth and development of children, and well-nourished students are better able to focus and learn in the classroom. School meals are an important part of students' well-being. Our nutrition services staff also offers healthy meal programs to introduce students to a wide variety of foods and develop lifelong healthy habits.
Effective for School Year 2021-22, Omaha Public Schools will serve meals at no charge to enrolled students. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved use of the Seamless Summer Option (SSO), which allows local school districts to provide no-cost meals to all enrolled students for the duration of the 2021-22 school year.
Although school meals will be provided at no cost to all children, families may receive additional benefits such as P-EBT, health insurance and fee waivers by submitting and receiving approval of a Free and Reduced Meal Application. Only one application is needed per household. Applications must be submitted each year. It is also important because school funding is based on the number of students eligible for Free and Reduced Meals.
