*Friendly Reminder to ALL NW Students – Students MUST park in the west parking lot with a permit* 

 

Attention drivers! If you are driving to and from school and still do not have a parking permit, please see Ann in the treasurer's office located under the spiral staircase. You must have your parent/guardian sign the application, bring it in with a copy of your registration, and driver's license. Permits are $20. 

 

*iPads are not available to use from 11:30pm – 5:30am for high school students* 

 

Dismissal Information All students, not in an activity or sport, must exit the building by 3:15 PM. Once you leave, you will not be allowed reentry. *We will consider extreme weather changes.* 

Drop Off – Parents/Guardians must drop students off in the west parking lot. This is the side where the football stadium is located. The east lot is reserved for buses and staff parking. 

Pick Up – Parents/Guardians must pick up students in the west parking lot. West parking lot traffic will go north only. The east lot is reserved for buses only, and traffic will go south. 

Activity Late Bus has started. Use the QR Code found in the cafeteria and main office.  

*You must use your own iPad/device to sign up.* 

Only students who qualify for transportation will receive a late bus. 

You must sign up by 2:00 PM each day. *If no one signs up, the bus will be cancelled.* 

Late buses do not leave until 5:15 PM. 

If you finish your activity earlier than 5:00 PM, please, call for a ride. 

If you do not attend your selected activity and/or wander around the halls unsupervised, you will lose late bus privileges.  

 

-STUDENTS in Credit Recovery....Just a friendly reminder that you must have your current class completed by December 15th in order to earn the credit. Please make sure you are attending your after-school credit recovery in order to earn these credits!! See Mrs. Weller with any questions. 

 

 

Upcoming Events:     

-The Northwest Food Pantry is open to all students and families and can be accessed anytime during the school day or otherwise by appointment. Come see Mrs. Coyne in the Counseling Office or call 531-299-9440 to set up an appointment. Anyone can access the pantry, no questions asked.  

 

-Students: Come take a look around the Northwest Clothing Closet where we have a range of sizes and styles! Come see Mrs. Coyne in the Counseling Office or call 531-299-9440 to check it out. Mrs. Coyne can take students to the Northwest Clothing Closet anytime throughout the school day or otherwise by appointment.  

-Academic Support Days and Time--3:15-5:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week. Academic Support will be in rooms 250-259.  

Tuesday and Thursday Math/Science help 

Wednesday English/Social Studies help 

Students planning to attend must scan the QR code and sign up by 2 pm on the day you will attend Academic Support. You must sign up in order to attend. Students who ride the bus will also need to sign up for the late activity bus for that day. QR codes can be found in the cafeteria, main office, library, and on the windows of the 2nd floor teacher plan areas starting Sept. 6.  

 

Academics News:  

Attention Seniors: Cap & Gown Order 

To access the direct link for the Northwest Cap & Gown, CLICK HERE. There are many cap & gowns, package deals you can choose from, but the basic package for just the cap & gown is now  $78.95. Students want to select "customize" and fill in their height, weight, and requirements. 

 

School Traditions (402-733-0300) is the local Omaha store that partners with Jostens. They can help set up monthly payment plans if necessary. Their store hours are Wednesday 10am-6pm and Saturdays 10am-12noon. For more specific questions about caps & gowns, please contact our school counseling director by email at josette.lovercheck@ops.org. 

 

-If you are interested in attending the Zoo Academy next year the application is online now! Go to the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium website; Omahazoo.com and click on the education tab. Applications are due December 2, the Friday after we get back from break.  Don't delay, fill it out today! Transportation is not provided to the zoo academy and is only open to be juniors and seniors. 

 

Attention Seniors: Buffett Scholarship is Now Open! 

Each year, the Buffett Foundation offers approximately 1,000 scholarships to seniors in Nebraska that plan on attending a public college in the state of Nebraska (Metro, UNO, UNL, UNK, Wayne State, Peru State, Chadron State, or other public community colleges in Nebraska). This scholarship can be worth up to $50,000 for the next 5 years of college! To read more about the Eligibility and Selection of this scholarship, CLICK HERE. 

 

One of these requirements is to have a minimum unweighted GPA of a 2.0. Also, you will need to complete the FAFSA for this scholarship application. The deadline for this scholarship is February 1st a 5pm. We had 45 seniors receive this scholarship last year. There are approximately 200 seniors that may qualify for this scholarship. Please check your gpa in your student/parent portal and there will be more details coming out later about this scholarship. 

 

This scholarship will ask for at least one letter of recommendation. Make sure you approach a teacher in advance to ask them if they’d be willing to write you a positive letter of recommendation. Also, they should be given at least two weeks before the deadline. You will enter their name, phone number, and email address when completing the electronic application. 

 

-Hey Juniors! 

The Greater Omaha-Council Bluffs Area Council on Youth Leadership is offering scholarships to those of you who: 1. have a cumulative 3.0 GPA 2. have held 2 leadership roles within the past 2 years.

-The annual HBCU Tour sponsored by Salem and Morning Star Baptist Churches and the Urban League of Nebraska. The info meeting is Thursday, December 1st at 6:30 PM and will be held at the North High School Viking Center.  Omaha North High is located at 4410 N 36th street.

-Bible Club will Wednesday from 3:15-4:15 in room 250. All are Welcome! 

-The next EdRising meeting will be held Wednesday, November 30th.  Please plan accordingly and bring your state competitions projects with you.  T 

-No Place for Hate club will meet Monday, November 28th after school in the School Counseling multi-purpose room at 3:15pm. 

 

-Student Council Meetings are every Monday  

3:15pm - 5pm in the library. Please be sure to contact Coach Harper for more information. 

 

-Husky Poets: Poetry Slam will be Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 PM in Rm. 237!  

 

JROTC Has these upcoming events:  

06 Dec (Tue):  Annual JROTC Program for Accreditation (Northwest) @ 8:00am 

Any event requiring bus transportation gets requested through TAC JROTC.

-The Boys Basketball Team would like to invite all staff and students and to our first game on Thursday, December 1st at Omaha North. 7:15pm game time 

 

-WINTER RUNNING CLUB WILL BE MEETING AT THE FLAGPOLE IN THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL FROM 3:20-4:15 EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY until Winter Break. Wear warm clothes and dress for the weather.   See Coach Rainey in room 234 or Coach Carlson in room 150 with any questions. 

 

There will be a Girls tennis meeting on Monday November 28, right after school in room 202. For questions, please email Coach Yates.
