Northwest High Drama Department
-
Currently under the direction of Jasmine Nelson, the Northwest High Drama Department holds a high standard of excellence in the performing arts. Each year Northwest puts on a Fall Play, a Winter Play, and a Spring Musical (in conjunction with the rest of the Performing Arts department). Our winter one act is taken to the OPS One Act Festival in December, and we pride ourselves on selecting a student-written and directed show each winter.
We are a member of the International Thespian Society, an honor society for the theatre arts. At the end of each year, we induct new members and honor the achievements of students through the year. We also send students to our Nebraska State Festival in January. During festival, students attend workshops, high quality productions, participate in the International Theatre Excellence Awards program, Improv and Tech Challenges, and work with theatre students from across the state and country.
Northwest is a proud member of the Nebraska High School Theatre Academy where we have had students participate in the Showcase Ensemble. This is where students have the opportunity to spend a week with other students across Nebraska learning the opening and/or closing number to the showcase, taking place every June. Best of all, we have had the opportunity to attend FREE Broadway Master Classes at the Holland Centers multiple times a year, including one with Northwest Alum Kevyn Morrow.
Northwest has an active Drama Club which meets weekly on Friday from 3:15-4:00pm and ANYONE is welcome to attend. This group holds numerous social events and activities throughout the year. We hope to grow our family each year and spread the passion of the Theatre Arts.
