New This Year
As we continue to prioritize the safety and security of all students at Northwest High School, visually displayed student ID’s will now be a requirement for all staff and students while on campus.
ID badges are a critical part of our school's safety protocols for several reasons:
- Enhanced Security: ID badges help staff and security personnel quickly identify students, ensuring that only authorized individuals are on campus. This measure significantly enhances our ability to maintain a secure environment for all students.
- Emergency Situations: In case of an emergency, having students wear their ID badges allows for quick identification, facilitating efficient communication with parents and emergency responders.
- Access to Resources: ID badges are often required for accessing various school resources, including the library, cafeteria, and certain events or activities. Ensuring that students have their ID badges with them helps streamline these processes and supports a well-organized school day.
- Accountability: Wearing ID badges helps students take responsibility for their identification and personal safety. It also fosters a sense of belonging and community within the school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in reinforcing this important safety measure with your child. We had picture days on August 15 and 16,and September 26.
Cell Phone Policy:
Research has shown that cell phones can often be a distraction to the learning process. Therefore, we are continuing the following cell phone policy: The use of electronic devices within Northwest High classrooms is for educational purposes only.
To ensure compliance with this policy, we have established the following steps:
1. First step: If a student is found using their cell phone inappropriately during class, the teacher will kindly ask them to stop.
2. Second step: If the student fails to comply with the teacher’s request, they will be asked to place their phone in a cell phone locker within the classroom for the remainder of the hour. (Cell phone lockers have individual keys that students will keep when their phone is inside of a locker)
3. Third step: Should the student still refuse to comply, they will be sent to their administrator, who will request that the student place their cell phone in a cell phone locker designated by the administrator for the rest of the day.
4. Continued non-compliance: If a student consistently violates the cell phone policy, parents will be contacted for assistance, and the parent will be asked to come and retrieve the phone or pick up their child. (Our preference is to keep students in school, so we ask for parent/guardian support in choosing to pick up the phone rather than the student)
5. The use of ear buds will be teacher's discretion and only during independent work time. Students in violation will be asked to put their ear buds in a cell phone locker based on the same policy listed above.
6. Students who need to use their cell phone for an emergency purpose will be sent to their administrator to support their needs. Students WILL NOT be allowed to go into the hallway outside the classroom to use their phone.
Please remember that we maintain landlines at the school and issues and calls for emergencies should go through the main office.
Tardy Policy:
Punctual attendance in class is critical towards student success. Students will be allowed 5 tardies per quarter, per class, up to 5 minutes late, without consequence.
• After a student’s third tardy, the teacher will have a conversation with the student
• The teacher will reach out to parents after a student's 4th tardy to inform and request assistance
• Once a student reaches 5 tardies, the teacher will inform the student's administrator, and the administrator will assign a lunch detention for tardies 5-9
• Once a student reaches 10 tardies, they will be assigned an after-school detention, and a parent meeting will be required to collaborate on additional interventions.
• Students who are later than 5 minutes will be sent to receive a hall sweep pass and assigned an immediate lunch detention.
• STUDENTS WITH EXCESSIVE TARDIES WHO FAIL TO GO TO CLASS WILL BE DEEMED INSUBORDINATE AND WILL BE SENT HOME FOR REFUSAL TO COOPERATE WITH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF.
📢 ATTENTION: CLOSED CAMPUS REMINDER
This is a reminder that our campus is closed, meaning students are not allowed to leave campus at any time during the school day without proper parent/guardian notification. Those who choose to do so will be subject to a search upon returning.
- Additionally, outside food deliveries are not permitted and will not be accepted at the school.
- If there are any questions, students should see their assigned administrator:
9th Grade – Mr. Lovell
10th Grade – Ms. Reid
11th Grade – Dr. Fant
12th Grade – Mr. Kahlandt
