Interested in Partnership 4 Kids (P4K) at McMillan? What can you expect?
The mission of P4K is to mentor students for college today and careers tomorrow. Our four core values are Goal Setting, Mentoring, College Access, and Career Exploration. P4K students participate in after school meetings and activities like college tours, career exploration, family engagement events, and more. We promote academic growth and life skill experiences through curriculum-based programming and one on one support from P4K Program Coordinators and volunteer mentors. As students prepare for high school graduation, we work alongside them and their families to establish future plans and guide students through the college scholarship and application process.
6th - 8th Grade P4K
Students accepted into our Middle School Group Mentoring program meet 2-3 times per month after school with their groups. Meeting activities change each session depending on the topic. At meetings students learn about their strengths, build leadership skills, set academic goals for the year, explore careers they are interested in, and focus on things they need to know to succeed in high school and all the way to college or a career that they love. Activities between mentors and students take place in a school-based setting but there are plenty of field trips each semester and celebrations to begin and end the school year!
9th - 10th Grade P4K
After middle school, P4K continues Group Mentoring with students in 9th and 10th grade at North, South, Central, Benson and Northwest high schools. In high school P4K students create a road map for success that includes topics such as academic and school interests, resumes, dressing for success, the job application process, ACT preparation and college visits.
P4K College Access Program
The final capstone along our spectrum of services is the College Access Program. The College Access staff provide critical services to students in the 11th and 12th grade and to all college scholarship program participants. We ensure that these students have continued contact with P4K staff, that they are aware of post-secondary options, and have the necessary materials and know how to apply to a post-secondary institution.
What will your student gain?
Participating in P4K will help your student get the most out of their education and develop skills to be successful in the future. Completing the program through 10th grade also gives your student access to P4K college scholarships.
How do I sign my student up?
Contact your student’s counselor for a P4K application. Once returned your student will be interviewed for acceptance into the program.
