Advanced Placement (AP) Information

  • The Advanced Placement (AP) program in the Omaha Public Schools offers high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses in a high school setting. For over fifty years, students in the school district have participated in the AP program, not only to gain higher level academic skills, but also to earn college credit while still in high school. Successful completion of AP Exams offers students the opportunity to earn advanced academic college credit. This can mean substantial savings for families on courses that would otherwise have to be taken in the freshman and sophomore years in college.

Dual Enrollment (DE)

  • Omaha Public Schools partners with Metropolitan Community College (MCC), University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO), and Midland University to provide high school students the opportunity to take more than 40 college-credit courses through Dual Enrollment. Dual Enrollment courses are taught by college-approved high school teachers and are generally offered at a lower cost than traditional college courses. Students gain exposure to the academic challenges of college within the supports of the high school environment. The courses are taught at a student's high school or the Career Center.

Students in grades 9 through 12 can participate in Dual Enrollment as long as all eligibility requirements are met. Participating in Dual Enrollment helps students prepare for college and workforce success and increases the chances that a student will complete college.

Generally, college credit earned in dual enrollment courses will transfer to a different college as elective credit. Students need to earn a grade of “C” or higher for the credit to be transferable.

Students who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals can apply for the Access College Early (ACE) Scholarship. The ACE Scholarship covers three dual enrollment courses in 2021-2022.
