U.S. Education Secretary to Visit Omaha Public Schools

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, Ed.D., will visit Omaha Public Schools and Bryan High.

During the visit, Sec. Cardona will tour the Bryan High Urban Agriculture, Design & Construction and Transportation, Distribution & Logistics academies. Sec. Cardona will also talk with students about their experience in Omaha Public Schools College & Career Academies and Pathways.

“We are honored by this opportunity,” said Omaha Public Schools Superintendent Cheryl Logan, Ed.D., “It is a testament to Bryan High’s leadership and our district-wide commitment to prepare all students for success in college, career and life.”

The Bryan High Urban Agriculture Academy was the first in Omaha Public Schools to earn top national honors. In 2018, the National Career Academy Coalition recognized it with “model” status. Since then, three additional Omaha Public Schools academies achieved the same exemplary recognition.

In 2021, Omaha Public Schools expanded access to high-quality high school programs for students across our school district. Throughout every academy or pathway, teaching instills in each student the qualities of our Portrait of a Graduate.

Omaha Public Schools high schools are currently sharing updates on the phased implementation of their programs with our Board of Education. Watch recent presentations here:

Additional high schools in our district community will present at future Board of Education meetings.
