Counseling

  • As the school counselor, I will visit each classroom sharing and teaching lessons on many topics including; personal safety, peer interactions, calming strategies, goal setting, and much more! Your student will see me in their classes every five cycle days. I am also available for individual and small group lessons. School counselors will also with attendance, transitioning to kindergarten and transititoning to middle school. 

    School counselors are here to support students in schools and families at home. Area of support include:

    • Academic support 
    • Organizational skills
    • Career-College information
    • Setting a foundation to become a contributing member of society

Mrs. Kathleen Matthews

My name is Kathleen Matthews. I have the pleasure of being the school counselor at Kennedy. My role is help students and their families through their educational journey. I am originally from Kansas City, but have been in the Omaha area for 12 years. Beyond my Elementary Education degree, I have a English Language Degree from Concordia and a Master's in School Counseling from Creighton University. Previously I taught in South Omaha for nine years and have served at other OPS schools as a counselor.
