Students Create Recycled Art

Students in Mrs.Long's B8 Art 6 class have put in over 30 hours of work this semester to create "Un Oso Para El Cambio (A Bear for Change)", a one of a kind, recycled material piece of art for our entry. This piece (based on your favorite bear logo) was inspired by glass and light artist Dale Chihuly and the recent art exhibit at Lauritzen Gardens which featured art pieces from "Washed Ashore", an organization that uses trash cleaned up from the ocean and beaches to create large sculptures.
This art piece included over 375 plastic bottles that were stripped of it's label and cap, and then painted (2 coats). After paint was dry, the bottoms of each bottle were cut off and then the bottle was cut into spiral strips. Bottles were each drilled with 2 tiny holes in the top and individually threaded with wire and attached to the frame.
Mrs.Long and her students would like to thank the staff who donated bottles to the project.
