PRINCIPAL

My name is Emma Dennell and I am proud to serve as principal of Castelar. I believe that students are at the heart of all school decisions and the learning and work that we do together. My experience as a kindergarten teacher, dual language lead teacher, and assistant principal will help me to fulfill my belief that every single student deserves the very best learning experience every single day. Our teachers and staff will provide the finest instruction and support for our students as we prepare them for their futures. I welcome you all to the Castelar family!

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in Elementary Education, a Master of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska in Teaching Literacy, an Endorsement in English as a Second Language from Concordia University, an Endorsement in Early Childhood Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, a Reading Specialist Certification, and a K-8 Administrative Certification. In September 2023, I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation to earn my Ed.D. from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Castelar offers our students and families a unique Dual Language program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students receive daily instruction in both English and Spanish. Castelar is dedicated to ensure that each child in the Dual Language program acquires the skills and knowledge to succeed in a global society.

Ms. Maritza Castro Marmolejo

Dual Language Lead

¡Hola! I’m Maritza Castro Marmolejo, the Dual Language Lead at Castelar Elementary. This is my sixth year in education, and I previously served as a 4th grade dual language Spanish teacher.

I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education with an ESL endorsement and an M.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Bilingual Education from the University of Nebraska Omaha. I believe in the power of dual language education to enhance cognitive development and cultural understanding.

It is a true privilege to work alongside our incredible students, their families, and our dedicated staff. I look forward to a fantastic school year!

Hello Castelar Families!

My name is Kathy Taylor, and I am joining the Castelar leadership team as Instructional Facilitator. This will be my 3rd year at Castelar Elementary and 25th year in education.

I hold a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a specialization in early childhood and a master's degree in Literacy and Leadership. I have endorsements in English as a Second Language, reading specialist and primary mathematics specialist.

In my free time I enjoy reading, walking, home improvement projects and spending time with my husband and two cats. I also visit my adult children and new grandson every chance I get!
