School-Based Health Centers

  • To ensure students are healthy and ready to learn, Omaha Public Schools partners with One World Community Health Center and Charles Drew Health Center to provide quality health care within nine School-Based Health Centers (SBHC) in buildings throughout the district.

The SBHCs are staffed by licensed, advanced-practice registered nurses and physician assistants who can diagnose, treat and prescribe medications for many illnesses that keep children out of the classroom, in addition to providing school and athletic physicals and administering immunizations which are required to attend school.

With parent/guardian consent, any Omaha Public Schools student and their minor siblings may use the services provided in the SBHC. The relationship with a student’s medical home is not disrupted if the SBHC is utilized by the student. The SBHC accepts Medicaid, Kids Connection, commercial insurance or they can provide a low-cost, sliding-fee schedule for uninsured children based on family income and size.

To enroll, the School-Based Health Center Enrollment and Consent Form must be completed by a parent/guardian and returned to school. For more complete information about hours, services and cost, please call your school nurse for assistance.

About Our SBHCs

  • Due to the unique vantage point and access to students, School-Based Health Centers have the ability to address the health concerns of our children and promote preventative health care all without causing extended disruption to learning in the classroom. The SBHC will be operated and staffed by the community’s federally qualified health centers, each serving four schools.
