Student and Staff Achievements - Sept. 23, 2022

Omaha Public Schools is pleased to recognize the following staff and students for their academic, extracurricular and professional achievements.

August:

  • Jannette Castro-Gomez of South High for receiving the John Parr Youth Award for extraordinary civic engagement and leadership.
  • Joseph Bristol of Wakonda Elementary for being recognized by the Nebraska Art Teachers Association as the 2022 Art Educator of the Year.
  • Those who participated in opening celebrations for Omaha Public Schools’ new elementary schools, Forest Station and Pine.
  • Our elementary students for logging more than 1.5 million minutes of reading so far in our Summer Reading Challenge.

September:

  • Mike Hogan, host of KIOS, on winning both a gold and silver award at the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Pinnacle Awards competition.
  • Edison Elementary for logging the most minutes in our Summer Reading Challenge, and to all Omaha Public Schools elementary students for reading more than 1.6 million minutes
  • Cadet Vel T. Par of Central High and Cadet Ayiana D. Woodman of Benson High for being awarded the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement from the JROTC.
