Counseling

  • I am looking forward to working with the fantastic students, staff, and families of Standing Bear Elementary. Please feel free to call, e-mail, or drop a note in the mailbox located outside my office if you have questions or concerns. I am here to assist students always, and especially during this unique, challenging time that will surely make for a memorable year!

    THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELOR: 

    • Cares about the unique development of each child at Standing Bear 

    • Supports all students with social, emotional, and/or academic needs 

    • Conducts classroom guidance lessons for all students once in a 10 day cycle 

    • Meets with children in small groups or individually for short term intervention 

    • Consults with teachers to help promote successful learning for all students 

    • Provides information on parent education classes, and community resources 

    • Monitors attendance, and aids in implementation of strategies 

    • Serves as a liaison with outside agencies 

    • Follows ASCA Ethical Standards and respects confidentiality of individuals    

    A CHILD MAY SEE THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR ABOUT: 

    • A problem with school work 

    • Understanding feelings 

    • Family changes 

    • Friendship, and conflict resolution strategies 

    • Other important issues of the child 

    PARENTS MAY SEE THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR ABOUT: 

    • The child’s study habits/school work 

    • Concerns with social skills, family life, etc. 

    • Community resources that may be available 

    • Other important issues of their child 

SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM

  • THE OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE, RESEARCH DRIVEN, COMPETENCY BASED PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH ACADEMIC, CAREER, AND SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO BE BOTH PROACTIVE AND RESPONSIVE TO THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS.
