Edward “Babe” Gomez Heritage Elementary School is located at 5101 S. 17th St. It is in the southeast area of the Omaha Public School District and opened on August 25, 2004.
Edward "Babe" Gomez was born and raised in South Omaha, Nebraska. He fought in the Korean War and sacrificed his life for the men in his company. Two-time Purple Heart winner and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient attended Highland Elementary school and South Omaha High School.
Edward would ride his sled down 17th and P streets. He had a scar on his face from where he hit a car while sliding down the very hill in front of our school.
Heritage was added to honor all ethnic groups who have settled and thrived in this neighborhood since the late 1800’s. Edward “Babe” Gomez Heritage Elementary School is proud of its heritage both past and present!
