Ms. Kari Caddell

ILP is the only school in OPS which has a certified Art Therapist.  Meet our Art Therapist, Kari Caddell.

At ILP, art therapy services are provided in individual and group settings. Sessions utilize the arts to address and increase social skills, positive communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, while enhancing self- esteem and a sense of mastery and autonomy through the art process.

Youth often find non-verbal expression as an outlet for their intense feelings of fear, isolation, sadness, anger,   and loss. Art Therapy supports students in building resilience and moving beyond life’s hurdles, promotes self- awareness, develops coping skills, and leads to a stronger future. The primary goal is always to help each student reach his or her fullest potential.

Kari is a Board Certified and Registered Art Therapist as well as a Licensed Mental Health Professional in NE.  She has been with OPS since 2002, working with special populations.  She also has experience working in medical and hospice settings.

"Art therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.  Art therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals as well as community concerns. Art therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensorimotor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal and ecological change."
