2026 Summer Reading

Two students read a book along with a teacher while sitting on the floor

Our district is committed to providing learning support year-round. As we work toward our Moonshot of all students reading on grade level by 2030, we want to share opportunities for your student to keep reading throughout the summer.

  • From May 11-15, elementary school students will have the opportunity to check out one to two books of their choice to bring home with them for the summer.
  • Students transitioning to middle school or changing schools within our district can return books to their new school librarian in the fall.
  • Each Wednesday in June, Next Level Learning (NLL) site libraries will be open to all students and families from 10 a.m.–noon. Students can return or exchange summer reading books during these times, and these libraries will host story time from 10:15–10:45 a.m. Students enrolled in NLL can return or exchange their books any time while classes are in session.
  • All students will continue to have access to e-books through Sora and their district-issued iPad.
  • Families are also encouraged to participate in the Omaha Public Library Summer Reading Program with additional opportunities to read for fun, volunteer or attend educational programs.
