Meet the Superintendent
-
Cheryl Logan, Ed.D., has served as superintendent of Omaha Public Schools since July 2018.
Since she began, Dr. Logan has been a key figure in projects to improve services we provide to students and families.
Under her leadership, Omaha Public Schools adopted its current Strategic Plan of Action in 2020. The plan guides our district through 2025 and beyond. With extensive stakeholder input, it established shared organizational values and created a future-focused vision. Our values include equity, results, leadership, accountability and joy. Our strategic priorities are academics, staff, financial accountability and ethic of care. The Strategic Plan of Action also determined our Portrait of a Graduate- skills all students should learn throughout their time in Omaha Public Schools.
In 2021, our district expanded high school offerings through the Omaha Public Schools College & Career Academies and Pathways. This established a Freshman Academy for all ninth grade students. It helps students explore careers and focus on skills for success in high school and beyond. During their freshman year, students select an academy or a pathway at their school. Students gain real-world career experience alongside core classes, advanced academics, fine arts and electives.
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Logan worked with local and regional partners to balance health and safety with educational priorities. She led our district through a timely rollout of 1 to 1 technology providing iPads for each student. With her commitment to family and community engagement, Omaha Public Schools hosted more than 70 stakeholder meetings to determine priorities for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding. Those resources will support our staff, students and infrastructure as we move forward together.
Under her oversight, our district also completed $421 million in bond work approved in 2014. $409.9 million in bond-funded projects from phase 2, approved in 2018, are on-track and on-budget. This includes opening five new schools. Forest Station and Pine Elementaries and Buena Vista and Westview Highs opened in 2022. Bluestem Middle opens in 2023.
Dr. Logan came to Omaha Public Schools from the School District of Philadelphia. There, she served as Chief Academic Officer, responsible for the academic achievement of more than 135,000 students.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland, a Master of Education Degree from John Hopkins University and a Doctorate of Education Degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Logan has spent her career in education working in school districts with large immigrant populations from around the world, including with students from significant English language learner populations. She is also fluent in Spanish.
