When you have a minute, take a look at http://www.ops.org/high/north Specifically, look at the NEWSWIRE and EVENTS section. Currently, I enter each item and link it to another location depending on the type of message. For example, if it is an award (of which none of the current ones are), it would point to the AWARDS section of the site. If a news item or upcoming event, it points to a different section. It works, but I'm manually deleting the items. Is there a module that will only take up one line per "announcement," allow for that line to be a link and supports timestamping (the event disappears on an identified date)? The key is taking only one line per item - we don't want the page to scroll much beyond the current screen size.

Have you looked at using the events module with NS Events at a Glance module on the front page? Please look at Burke High School it is on the left pane called upcoming events. http://www.ops.org/high/burke This module is the NS Events at a Glance module connected to complete event calendar. It will automatically expire items and list them for you. Here is the page it is feeding off of: http://www.ops.org/high/burke/NEWSCALENDAR/Calendar/tabid/354/Default.aspx This page is also across the menu bar listed as News & Calendar. South High has an events module on their front page but they have gone into the settings of the module, to the Event Module Settings and set the Default Module View as List. You will find it in the right pane on their page. http://www.ops.org/high/south Benson did the same thing as South.
