News Articles Module is a great one to replace the blog with.  If you look at the Curriculum Connections page you can see what it looks like plus the News Articles Archive module on the left hand side.

This module allows advanced articles to be created with functionality such as multi-page, publish/expire dates, categories, comments, ratings, etc. If you do not want others to comment it is possble to turn this feature off and use it just as a newsletter.
