Expanded Learning Time Means More Time for:
STRENGTHENING ACADEMICS
More time allows for broader and deeper coverage of curriculum, including increased time on core subjects that allows for higher quality and more challenging academics. With additional time, teachers can provide hands-on, project-based lessons that give students the opportunity to apply academic concepts to real world situations. With more time we can provide students with the types of learning that we know engages them: better-performances; projects; field trips, and other types of experiential learning.
ADDING ENRICHMENT
With more time, Nathan Hale can provide our students with greater opportunities for enrichment and experiential learning aligned with the core academic, curriculum, including art, music, drama, leadership and physical education. Enrichment programs engage and stimulate a love of learning in students and encourage them to stay in school. Students will be able to take special classes to foster critical skills for success in the 21st century such as leadership, problem solving, teamwork, and use of technology. Course offerings and experiences will teach students to communicate, collaborate, compete, and connect… skills vital to success in the 21st century workplace.
STIMULATING INSTRUCTION
More time will allow teachers to challenge students to maximize student learning. Students who are doing well will receive accelerated instruction, while those who need additional support will be given increased opportunities for mastery learning. With more time, our teachers will be able to take the time to engage with students on homework and students would have the time to complete assignments with the resources they need at school. Teachers need more time to stimulate their students with projects and experiments that help them truly understand and utilize the academic concept presented to them.
