A little about me...

Hlisa thompsonello to all! I am the magnet coordinator for Morton. I also chose to be the adviser for the National Junior Honor Society. I feel privileged to be able to offer some guidance to your child! National Junior Honor Society offers your child opportunities to grow and develop into a solid citizen of our community. As their adviser, I would like to share a little bit about myself. I have been in education for 21 years. The last 11 have been at Morton, 9 as the technology coordinator and 1.5 as the 8th grade decision science teacher, and now as magnet coordinator.  Before that I taught elementary school.  Each and every year I have learned something about life. There are pros and cons, but the pros out weigh the cons so much that I couldn’t even tell you what they are.  Every year is an opportunity for me to be involved in the development of a young person’s mind. What as awesome responsibility! Thank you for letting me be a part of that process. I promise to do the best that I can. I am excited to get your child involved in leadership, service, citizenship and character building activities.
My formal education consists of a degree in psychology, a degree in education and a Master’s degree in technology in education. With all this education do I feel qualified to teach? I do! Not only has my formal education prepared me, but the last 20 years I have spent with students, learning from them, has prepared me.
On a personal note, I have three young children of my own; a 10year old son in fifth grade, and 7 year old twins (boy/girl) in second grade. They attend grade school where their father is the physical education teacher. This makes it especially nice for me! Having children has given me a better understanding of the workings of young minds. I also feel like I have joined a secret club called “the parents”.
I hope that I will be able to help mold your child into the person you hope for them to become. If you have anything you would like to share with me, please send me an email.
