Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) - This is for seventh grade students who have scored at or above the 95%ile on any of the Math, Reading, or Language sections of the CAT test.  Students that qualify are invited to take the ACT test as a measure of how they are on track for college entrance.  This is a voluntary program for which participants pay a fee.

African American History Challenge - AAHC is a national educational program designed to enhance the study of African-American history culminating in a competition in the spring.

All-City Music Festival

Book Blasters - This is a 7th-8th Grade book reading contest to see who knows the most about 20 pre-determined books while promoting and encouraging the love of reading.

Leadership - Our mission is to provide opportunities for a select group of students to experience and develop leadership, teamwork and service through activities conducted at the district and school level over a two-year period.

National Spelling Bee

Quiz Bowl - QuizBowl is an academic competition where a 4 member team competes against the clock answering questions from various disciplines (math, language arts, foreign language, science, and the arts).

SAT and ACT Preparation – for TIP students and Scholars students

Scholars - The Scholars is an association of goal-oriented minority students who strive to learn more about

themselves, support one another, and achieve success at school. The Scholars set realistic, attainable goals, volunteer in the community, and learn and practice social skills and success techniques with their peers.   The Scholars nurture their academic ability and maintain high academic standards.

Science Olympiad - Students will choose a project through their science class and compete in the school wide competition in the late Fall.

Service Learning Projects

Student Mentoring Program - Students work with a professional or two to prepare a formal engineering or architectural project presentation in the spring.

Think Tank – a competition for team oriented students who are quick, creative thinkers.
