Here is a sample of the possible activities in which your High Ability Child my participate this year.

 

5th Grade

Build It! - Two 5th Graders spend a day focusing on the principles of architecture and engineering, creating and designing various structures, and interacting with a professional architect.

Classroom Differentiation - see description on main Gifted and Talented page here.

Read to Succeed– This is a team book reading contest to see who knows the most about 20 pre-determined books while promoting and encouraging the love of reading.

National Spelling Bee

 National Geography Bee

Science Olympiad - Students will choose a project through their science class and compete in the school wide competition in the late Fall.

 Service Learning Projects

  

6th Grade

 

Benson Mates - Eight students are t eamed with BensonHigh School students on 4 field trips throughout the year and explore the areas of research, math, science, information technology, and culinary arts.

 Math Competitions and/or Contests

 National Spelling Bee
National Geography Bee

Read to Succeed– This is a team book reading contest to see who knows the most about 20 pre-determined books while promoting and encouraging the love of reading.
Science Olympiad - Students will choose a project through their science class and compete in the school wide competition in the late Fall.

 Service Learning Projects

Speak Out - This is an oratory/speech competition which provides an opportunity for sixth grade students to showcase their talent in public speaking in one of four categories; 1 Dramatic Reading from a Passage 2 Poetry Recitation, 3 Persuasive Argument, or 4 Storytelling.
