Morton Middle School - Omaha Public Schools
What We Do............
Boys & Girls Club of the Midlands is the lead agency for our after school program.   We provide a variety of activities for students to enjoy from 2:45 to 6:00 p.m. Below is a sampling of what's going on here at Morton.

Teacher tutors everyday 3-4pm.
Hot Snack served daily.
Monthly field trips.
Movie of the Week.
Panther Productions where students create the daily news for Morton's website.

Morton Afterschool Clubs

 

1. Y.E.S.S. Club (Child Saving Institute)

The purpose of the Y.E.S.S. groups is to assist youth in identifying and understanding their emotions and how they affect their decisions making abilities.  The groups will focus on teaching students new adaptive thinking and coping skills to assist in decreasing negative behaviors in school and improving academic performance. 

Students learn to think, choose and act to achieve good emotional and mental health. Together the students create structure, goals, and rules for respect and trust to make their class a safe and healthy place to learn. They learn about and engage in activities to improve their self-esteem. They learn to express feelings in healthy ways and to get help for troublesome feelings. They learn how to develop relationships with others, and practice communication skills to strengthen relationships.

 

2. The Rose Theater Group Presents: Mind/Spaces for Middle Schools Club

Students go to sessions for Improve tournaments, Playwriting, You/Tube, Musical Theater sing and stomp, Reader's Theater Performance, Hip Hop and Creative Movement, City Storytelling, and Acting For Fun and Fame.

3. African Culture Connection Club

The African Culture Connection combines African are, dance, and drumming session to educate students about African countries and culture. Sessions are led by artists who teach students a variety of skills and techniques related to African culture. Using music, drums, dance, arts/crafts, and story-telling the African Culture Connection helps students relate the traditional values and principles of African society to their own lives. At the end there will be a performance celebration to see and enjoy what the students have learned.

4. Book Club

The importance of a Book Club helps with providing different styles of reading, preparing and participation.  Commonality for these students is that they all agree to finish a book by a certain date, prepare for discussion and participate in meaningful conversation about a great book.  Students also learn the importance of literacy and how it affects our everyday lives.  By participating in Book Club our goal is to enhance the reading lives of our children.

6. Why? Arts Club

Mission Statement: a non-profit downtown community art space supporting contemporary artists working in the visual arts.  Our mission is to foster creativity and art excellences; provide exhibition space to new and established artists; provide program and activities that encourage  public awareness, participation, and appreciation of the visual arts and to serve as a catalyst for small city revitalization via the arts.

Artist:

Natalie Linstrom - Does General Media.  During her sessions, Natalie does watercolor, pastels, collages...and a variety of a art techniques and media.

Tom Kerr - Does Drawing.  During his sessions, Tom will demonstrate his technique as an Artist and Cartoonist... as well as a variety of activities.

 

7. Drum Line Club

Students learn about what a Drum Line is and learn how to play the various types of drums in harmony as a Drum Line.  Student aslo get the opportunity to display their skills in a performance as a Drum Line.

8. Chess Club

Students participate in tournaments to display their level of understanding and skills of chess.

9. Guitar Club

Students learn how to play the many types of guitars.

10. Raptor-ology Club

Students learn about Raptors and participate in activities that enhance their knowledge about Raptors.  Students who participate in this club get the opportunity to visit the Hitchcock Nature Center near Crescent IA, to experience first hand all the different kinds of Raptors that we have here in the Midwest.

11. Teen Talk- CHD Club

Students learn about the many things that affect teenagers today.  Give teens an opportunity to talk to Professionals who specialize in the field of adolescents and teens.  Their purpose is to provide public awareness, promote diversity and encourage acceptance.

12. Panther Pack Leadership Club

Purpose is to educate students about what is means to be a leader.  This club also focuses on the awareness and understanding of community service and service-learning.  The goal  of this club is to perform some form of community service in the Omaha community.

13. Life style Fitness Club

Purpose is to teach the importacne of health and fitness.  Students participate in exercise activity and discuss the importance of nutrition.

14. Swimming Club

Students learn about the different swimming styles and safety techniques.  Students get the opportunity to enhance their swimming skills.

15. Aikido Martial Arts Club

 Its mission is to impact and empower massive amounts of students’ lives with the positive benefits of martial arts training throughout the world. We are committed to create a better world filled with health, happiness, peace, and harmony built from a unique blend of old traditional and modern day martial arts training. Studying the best martial art skills and life skills from the East and the West is our quest.

Panther Pack Grade Incentive Program:
 
A’s = $20.00
B’s = $ 15.00
C’s = $ 10.00
D’s = deduct $10.00

F's = deduct $15.00

Students Must attend 63 days between: August 17th and December 18th to qualify for Incentive. 
Each Student is responsible for signing-in each day they attend the program.  Students must too demonstrate good behavior.
