On behalf of the Morton Magnet Middle School staff, I would like to welcome students, parents and the community to our school. Morton takes a great deal of pride in the academic success of our students. Expectations are set high for all our students. The Morton staff continues to work towards accomplishing these expectations over the course of the school year. Morton is a grade 5 through 8 building with a student population of about 725. Our students use block scheduling which consists of 4, ninety minute blocks and one advisory period each day.
Our Magnet focuses on Decision Science and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). Morton’s Decision Science program focuses on teaching students to become strategic decision makers. This class also helps to prepare our students for college, post secondary institutions, and to equip them with the tools to excel above their peers. A trained Morton staff incorporates the Stanford University model of Decision Science, Six Step Process in formulating a decision on available information at hand. Important steps like Framing, Values, Alternatives, Information, Reasoning and Commitment to Follow Through are all researched in great depth. Students develop a sound framework for solving issues that are researched in class and also to develop a strategic mindset to approaching issues.
Morton also offers the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program to our students. Select students have the opportunity to be part of a class that offers strategies, curriculum and individualized attention to raise student achievement and promote post secondary participation. Morton’s AVID program challenges students by placing them in advanced classes and providing them individualized help through out the day to monitor success in their rigorous schedules. AVID strategies are offered school wide.
Morton Magnet Middle School has a rich history of academic success. Students focus on instruction that challenges them to meet the expectations and goals set each year.
Thanks,
Mr. Matt Brandl
