Jump Start Camp
Jump start camp is a program for incoming seventh graders to see the school and experience some of the diversity, and get the feel for changing classes every ninety minutes, also to get the feel for some of the cirrocumuli and the teachers. The sessions go week by week, and everyday until about noon. If students more than two miles away from the school, they will provide transportation, which will give students an opportunity to meet new people.
When the current eight grade class was at jumpstart camp, some of the participating teachers were, Mrs. Colton (math), Mrs. Premier (math), and the tech and living teachers. They really didn’t teach much we mostly played games according to the subjects were in!
In each group of children, there were two to three student ambassadors; they would go from group to group with the students The ambassadors would also walk/ show students around the building, so they would not get lost! The children get a little treat, and juice pouch, at the end of every day. Then students would load on to buses and head home. Hopefully getting to know the kids who may be some of their future class mates.
During this experience McMillan, and the staff, and ambassadors; would want the kids to get the feeling of the whole middle school change. At the end of the last day students filled out surveys on how they liked it and what they could maybe change, or improve on!
