Math tutoring was available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school. Because a lot of students didn’t take advantage of it, math teachers talked to college students and decided to ask them to help the McMillan students with their math. UNO students came to McMillan to offer their services. “They have been a really good help to us. They got things done that we didn’t have time to,” said Ms. Mattson, math teacher.

UNO student, Katie Brown was one of the four college tutors offering extra help in math to students. Brown tutored more than 20 kids every time she came. Brown came every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 and every Friday for the whole day. She chose to tutor math because she is a math major. “It’s really laid back to tutor and the kids learn something new,” said Brown.

College students were getting paid to tutor through a foundation to help younger kids. The college students were picked through the college that they went to. Students needing extra help in math especially with CRT’s were chosen to receive the tutoring in the library. Math teachers expect tutors to come again next year. “Most students learn better one on one,” said Ms. Premer, math teacher.
