Besides teaching school many teachers have other jobs; some even have two or three. Many students have said that they would like to know what their teachers do for side jobs. Teachers all over the building pick up second jobs so they can earn some extra money, or to support their family. Even on the side though, some teachers are still teaching.
Mr. Floyd is not only the Human Growth teacher, but he also teaches drivers education. After teaching his regular school day, he teaches students how to drive from 4 until 8 pm. Floyd enjoys teaching, so he does it for both jobs, and for the money. “You have to have a lot of patience being a teacher,” said Floyd.
Not only does Floyd teach outside of school, but so does Ms. Stevens, A.A.C teacher. For her other job, Stevens is a math tutor from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. She said one of the benefits of tutoring is she can pick her own hours. Outside of school, Mr. Jackson, social studies teacher, is a basketball coach for Ralston. He coaches for the money and likes coaching just as much as teaching. His hours are usually long and go through the night when his team is at tournaments.
Ms. Barg, Technology and Living teacher, has a second job also. She works at a hardware store on the weekends. She enjoys both of her jobs for different reasons, but loves to help at both. The benefit of her other job is that she can learn a lot about things she likes. Barg learns new things about engineering, architecture, and painting.“Always read directions and don’t throw them away,” suggests Barg.
Besides school, teachers have many other responsibilities. They have to take care of their families and work other. Most of these teachers want to teach so much that they would rather have to get two jobs then not teach at all. They love helping students achieve a better education.
