Three toured Russia
Three toured Russia

On March 7, Mr. Walter, seventh grade social studies teacher, along with eight graders, Jayde Balentine and Chrissy Anderson, took a trip to Russia. They visited Moscow and St. Petersburg all in eight days. In order to get to Russia, they had to fly to Minneapolis, Newark, Amsterdam, and then to Moscow. The group also took a night train to St. Petersburg from Moscow. “The night train was actually pretty comfortable and relaxing,” said Anderson.

The three, as well as groups from Arizona and Alaska also went to the circus in Moscow. They saw people swimming, ice-skating, dancing, bouncing on tightropes, and lots of animals like lions and seals. On the streets of Russia, there were a lot of pigeons. People just let their dogs run the streets. “There were a lot of venders on the streets; a vender is people who sell things on the street."

Blini is a popular food in Russia. The group experienced a lot of interesting things in Russia. “Experiencing Russian culture first hand was great! It was also nice to see Russia through the student’s eyes, and blini with salmon are awesome! I’m looking for the recipe,” said Walter.

They returned from Russia eight days later to greet their families at the airport. On the way back they flew to Frankfurt, London, Chicago, then to Omaha. “It was hard to adjust to the eight hour time difference,” said Balentine. “I wanted to eat breakfast when everyone else was eating dinner.”
