MP3 Players and iPods in the classroom
MP3 Players and iPods in the classroom

MP3 players and iPods are constantly being used in school. The electronics are not allowed, but many students use them in classes anyway. Some teachers allow them to listen to the devices in class. However, many of the students that listen to their iPods and MP3 players in classes feel that the music helps them concentrate and work harder on their assignments.
Some of the teachers don’t mind their students listening to the electronics during class. Ms. Washington, 8, science teacher, said that she doesn’t mind her students listening to their iPods and MP3 players during class, as long as they are honestly doing their work, and aren’t listening to them during instructions. Mr. Albers, art teacher, said that the music can help students express themselves more in their artwork.

Some of the students also think that iPods and MP3 players can become useful in classes. Tylynn Beasley, 8, said that music can keep students focused on their work. Tylynn Harris, 7, also agrees with this by saying that music keeps the students motivated to do their work.  Jemal Shabazz, 8, believes that students should be able to listen to their iPods and MP3 players in class as long as they are paying attention, and listening to instructions.

Other staff members believe that iPods and MP3 players should not be listened to in class. Mrs. Premer, math teacher, feels that the electronics can be big distractions in classrooms. She believes that students won’t listen to instructions that well because they are distracted by the music players. At the same time, she feels that when students are taking tests, listening to music can keep them stay focused. Mr. Henderson, computer apps. teacher, also feels that iPods and MP3 players are a distraction during class. He believes that students won’t pay attention because they would be too busy selecting songs on their music players.

That’s how a lot of people feel about having iPods and MP3 players in classes. Some want to keep the electronics out of class to follow the school rules. Others believe that the music players can be a good way to keep students motivated and focused. In the end, there are many different opinions about having iPods and MP3 players in classes.
