Lions Pride (LP) provides a fun, educational alternative to all McMillan students after school! A community expectation of all McMillan Monarchs is to get involved in at least one after-school activity. LP is the organization that helps students meet this expectation. The YMCA of Greater Omaha administers LP through a grant from the Middle School Learning Center Initiative (MSLCi). MSLCi is a joint effort of the Mayor's After-School Initiative, the Omaha Public Schools, and The Sherwood Foundation.*
Lions' Pride offers a wide variety of activities including: Tutoring/Homework Help, Wii, Play Station 3, XBox 360, Bridge Club, Math Lab, YVC, Fantasy Football, Design Club, Open Gym, Board Games, Swimming, and much more!
Community Providers are: African American Culture, Rose Theater, Red Cross, Girl Scouts, El Museo Latino, Holistic Development, and the Omaha Public Library. These organizations conduct interactive sessions with students.
Participation in Lions' Pride is free. Students must have the proper paperwork on file before participation is allowed. LP is held Monday-Friday (when school is in session) from 2:45-5:30. Late buses are available to students who ride yellow school buses, at 3:50, 4:40, and 5:30. Transportation is not provided for students who do not ride yellow school buses. Once a student leaves McMillan’s campus, s/he will not be allowed to return to the program or to ride a late bus. THE OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT WILL STILL APPLY DURING THIS PROGRAM. A snack will be served to all participants.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mr. Badgett at 557-4526 or terrance.badgett@ops.org.
* MSLC is operated by the YMCA under contract with the Mayor's After-School Initiative.
