Dual Language Arts 5th Grade English

Together with the Spanish language classroom of Ms. Forrest, Mrs. O'Neil''s class teaches students the skills they need to be successful readers and writers in the 5th grade.

Content subjects covered include:

Fiction vs. Non-Fiction

Genres

Identifying Main Idea and Supporting Details

Recognizing an author's purpose

Identifying the Point of View of a story's narration

Parts of Speech

Spelling of commonly misspelled English words

Learning grade-appropriate vocabulary

How to write a friendly letter

Who is Mrs. O'Neil?

Mrs. O'Neil graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Music Education K-12, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

She received her Master of Music in Voice Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music/Case Western Reserve University.

Currently, Mrs. O'Neil is completing her graduate endorsement in ESL at Concordia University.

Previously, Mrs. O'Neil taught in the Papillion/La Vista Public School district.  This is her second year at Marrs.

Mrs. O'Neil is working hard to improve her Spanish skills!
