As the Academic Achievement teacher for the Team 7A at King Science, I do many different things during my school day.  Below are some FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) about myself as a teacher at our fantastic school!

1.  What is Academic Achievement?
An Academic Achievement teacher is a fancy title that means I teach a little bit of everything.  I teach all subjects on our team!  Sometimes I teach Math, sometimes Language Arts and a lot of Reading.  My goal is to make sure that all students work to their full potential.

2.  Why do we have an Academic Achievement teacher?
When I teach Math, Language Arts and Reading, I teach along with our core teachers.  In those classes, you get two teachers at once!  This is called co-teaching.  It has been researched for years as being an extremely effective way to fully reach all students.
This is important because every student learns differently!  By having two teachers in one room, we are able to cater to all learning styles.  How do you think you learn best?

3.  How did you become an Academic Achievement teacher?
I graduated from Quincy University in Quincy, IL in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education and one in Special Education as well.   Special Education means I can teach any child.  I learned specifically how to discover if a child is not learning to their full potential and how to change that.  That applies to ALL students because everyone can perform better than they are right now!  I help all students achieve that.

4.  As a parent, what can you do for my child?
If you feel your child is not being as successful at school as they could be, let me know!  There are various interventions we can take to help them.  Maybe it involves some after school tutoring, taking some time to get organized, a lesson on how to use their agenda, or even some testing to see if they are struggling or excelling in a certain area of school.  All teachers on Team 7A want your child to do their absolute best!

5.  Which teacher should I contact with questions?
I co-teach with Ms. Prem and Mrs. Wilson on a regular basis.  If you have a question or concern about that class, you may contact EITHER of us!  We work together on lessons, tests and expectations in the classroom, so I can answer any and all questions.
