7th & 8th Grade Reading Class
Reading classes focus on helping students develop reading strategies to improve comprehension. This is done through both independent and classroom reading.
Students read self-selected books and complete projects to show understanding of what they have read. Fiction and non-fiction works are used as students “train their brain to read." We also work to increase students’ vocabulary and help them de-code words and use context clues as they read.
Reading classes provide students with valuable skills they can use when reading anything across the curriculum. These classes truly give students knowledge that will help them throughout their lives!

Predict
What will happen or what will we learn?
Make a PREDICTION when:

Ask TEACHER-LIKE QUESTIONS:

- How is ___________ an example of __________?

Summarize

- Look for who, what , when, where, why and how.
- Omit unnecessary information.
SUMMARY Stems:
- This story/paragraph is mostly about...
- The topic sentence is...
- The author is trying to tell me...
Visualize
Try to picture what you are reading in your mind.
VISUALIZE a picture in your mind:

Use these strategies and you will have SUCCESS!
