Enrichment Academies are smaller learning communities within the Bethesda After School Academy.  All Students will “major” in Leadership Development for Community Affairs, and will minor in specific career interests to begin to introduce students to the career pathways they will enter.  The 10 foundation leadership knowledge and skills are common to all 6 of the career pathway areas.  Students will explore the 6 enrichment academies they choose through “electives” that include student-led, project-based classroom activities, field trips, shadowing experiences, speakers, and service learning projects.

Our Career Exploration Adventure will Kick-Off with a Future Force Friday field trip on October 3 to UNO Campus’ Service Learning Academy.  There, students will begin their journey to excellence through various speakers and department tours.

BETHESDA AFTER SCHOOL ACADEMY
KING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MAGNET MIDDLE SCHOOL

Bethesda Urban Community Development Corporation has partnered with The Sherwood Foundation, The City of Omaha, and Omaha Public Schools to for a Middle School Learning Center (MSLC) at King Science.  The After School Academy is a free program open to any student attending King Science.  Late buses will be available to any student who is eligible for OPS transportation at 5:30.  A wholesome snack will be provided during the program for all registered students who attend.

Bethesda’s Wildcat After School Academy will offer a range of opportunities for student involvement and leadership development; Homework Hideout and Academic Skill-building are just two of the programs offered to students.  Just like in college, students will have a chance to “major” in Leadership Development for Community Affairs, and minor in a specific interest.  These interests include Fine Arts, Communications & Technology, Business Management, Marketing, Environmental Sciences, Graphic Design, Natural Resources, Architecture, etc.  These majors will be enhanced through shadowing experiences, fieldtrips, service learning projects, speakers, and assignments.

We ask that students stay until the end of the program, as to lessen disruption for others.  Please feel free to call Site Director, Jamise Williams or Asst. Site Director, Lend Frison @ 557-3720 if your child will be absent or needs to leave early.

Service Providers:

Heartland Family Services, Rose Theater, Center for Holistic Development, Omaha Public Library, African Culture Connection, and American Red Cross.
