Computer Applications

Grade 5

In 5th Grade Computer Applications we will use/learn the following programs to produce documents and presentations for set purposes:

Microsoft Word 2007

  • word processing-formatting text
  • using tables
  • shape tools

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

 

Microsoft Publisher 2007

  • creating cards and posters

The students will also use Typing Time to learn proper keyboarding skills utilizing the home row keys.

 

The students will also learn Internet Safety as well as copyright and plagiarism.

 

Computer Applications

Grade 5

8th Grade

The students will learn about:

  • Proper online etiquette and behavior
  • Copyright, plagiarism, and fair use

The majority of the 1st Semester will be used to learn Photoshop.  The students will learn how to:

  • adjust resolution and image size
  • use the selection tools and layering
  • insert and manipulate text
  • use painting tools
  • restore and retouch photographs

If students take the year long class they will learn everything above and:

  • how to make web pages using Macromedia Dreamweaver
  • animation using Macromedia Flash
  • how to use Macromedia Fireworks for a variety of Digital Media projects.

The students will learn about:

  • Parts of the Computer and how they work together.
  • Proper Online Etiquette

The majority of the semester will be spent making web pages using HTML where the students will learn how to:

  • Create a basic web page
  • change font size, color, and style
  • use the elements of design
  • make ordered and unordered lists (bullets)
  • insert images and links
  • use tables

For an end of the semester project/assessment, the students will design an original web page from scratch using the tags they learned throughout the semester.
