Independent Reading

For the most reading growth, students need to:

 

  • Practice Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) everyday in school and at home.

 

  • Practice reading a variety of books including fiction, non-fiction and information or fact books.

 

  • Select a wide variety of fiction books for recreational reading.

 

  • Discuss what is you are reading.
      • What's it about?
      • What's going on in the story?
      • Who is the main character and what is he/she/it like?
      • What is the problem or conflict in the story?
