| Week of November 16th-November 20th - Monday, November 16, 2009Hello everyone,
This week marks the end of the 2nd OPS writing assessment for 8th grade students. I am very pleased with the progress made by all students as they improve their descriptive writing in preparation for the State Writing Assessment in February 2010.
8th grade students will be moving on to a new concept-based unit ("Relationships") and will begin literature studies in that area. 8th Grade students will also be working on subject/verb agreement as part of their grammatical studies.
7th grade students are continuing their study of nouns and pronouns, identifying Direct Objects, Indirect Objects, and Predicate Nouns as well. They will also be reading the theatrical version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" in preparation for their field trip next Monday to Benson High School to watch their performance of the play.

| Week of October 26, 2009 - Tuesday, October 27, 2009Hello!
This week sees the completion of Quarter projects and essays for both 7th and 8th Grade classes. New resources have been added to this page to help students with essay writing, including in-text citations and works cited pages (look to the right!).
This week is also Student Led Conference week! We hope to see you on Wednesday from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Thursday from 12:00pm-7:00pm. Of course, Thursday is a short day in lieu of conferences. Hope to see everyone there, and enjoy your long weekend.

| End of Quarter Testing / Projects - Monday, October 19, 2009Hello!
This week we will be finishing off our 1st quarter materials by completing our grammar-related assessments in 7th and 8th grade. 7th graders will be taking their Capitalization Unit Test and 8th Graders will be taking their Punctuation Unit Test. Both of these tests will appear on the 1st Quarter Grade Reports.
Additionally, students will be given class time to work on their Semester projects/activities. These projects are due on MONDAY, OCTOBER 2ND (ODD) and/or TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3RD (EVEN). Remember that Honors by Contract students will also be preparing an oral presentation in addition to their project requirements. Please review the activity sheet with your student/child to go over the requirements.
Good Luck Everyone!

| This Week: Some more assessments - Tuesday, September 29, 2009This week marks the last section of assessments for 1st Quarter as the 8th Grade Language Arts classes finish their Acuity (Reading Comprehension) Testing in the Library.
7th Graders are focusing on Capitalization as part of their grammatical instruction, and 8th Graders will be tackling punctuation.
Have a Great Week everyone!

| News this Week - Monday, September 21, 2009Excellent job, 8th Graders! Fall Writing Assessments are all but finished, and some outstanding writing has been done. I am very impressed.
7th Graders also did an excellent job taking the brand-new Acuity Test online in the library. With only a handful of technical issues, you all persevered and managed to be the first to test out what will become a staple of reading assessment in our building.
Honors By Contract curriculum begins THIS WEEK. Additional writing responsibilities will be implemented into our response work for HBC students, and extra-curricular goals will be established.
The weather is slowly becoming cooler and crisper, but we are starting to pick up steam! Keep up the great work.

I guess school has officially started! Good Luck to all students--we'll do very well, I'm certain.
