Welcome to my page

There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island. ~Walt Disney~

WELCOME TO 7B READING

There are three different levels of reading. They are:

Soar

Reading Renaissance

Junior Great Books

All three levels have the same Content Standards, but the approach and supplemental material differ. In addition to learning the skills outlined in the Content Standards, students in these reading classes should read a minimum of 12 books. These books will be of various genres and cultures in the students' Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD).

At the beginning of the school year, each student is given 3-4 different reading tests to ascertain a more accurate reading level, with periodic testing throughout the year. Their ZPD represents the predicted upper and lower ends of their independent reading levels based on the STAR test (computerized) as well as other tests.

I am aware that there are some students in my classes who do not share the love of reading that I do (believe it or not). However, those who do, I will encourage them to expand their minds by reading outside their genre and authors of choice. Those that don't, I will help them to find a genre or author that will increase their desire to read, or at a minimum not dread the task.

A wonderful thing about a book, in contrast to a computer screen, is that you can take it to bed with you.
