Alice Buffett Magnet Middle School - Omaha Public Schools
Current Assignments

OVERVIEW: (November 9th to December 18th)

Our second inquiry learning concept will be "Creating a New Nation".  We will establish a number of essential questions (Big Picture Questions) and read diligently to pursue a wide range of information to better understand and respond to each question.  You can look forward to fictional texts, informational texts, and many online sources.

ROTATIONS:

Rotations is an approach to Reading Workshop that allows the teacher to meet in small groups and with individual students to meet students' needs.  While students are working with their learning team practicing reading skills, the teacher can pull flexible groups of students to extend skill practice.

Students have a literacy menu that defines the tasks they should work on during this time.  Rubrics, or scoring guides, are also available for students and parents to better understand what is expected for each level of proficiency (Advanced, Proficient, Progressing, Beginning).

Check the homework webpage or call Homework Hotline at 561-6199 for the current assignments.

Everyone should be reading a minimum of 30 minutes each night.

Welcome to 5B Reading with Mrs. Turbes!

I am so excited to begin the educational journey we will continue for the next 2 years!  Our theme and focus this year is Read!  Read!  Read!

Our main focus is getting kids reading which is why the main homework assignment each night is to read a minimum of 30 minutes and record the time spent reading and pages read on a reading record which is collected every Monday.  Any other work being done at home would be make-up work from an absence or due to late work, or to complete work that wasn't completed during classroom work time.

Students keep a reading binder in class that holds everything they work on each day.
