All seventh and eighth grade students are eligible to try out for the competitive athletic teams. Students in fifth and sixth grade may participate in after school intramurals. Buffett Magnet Middle School students are encouraged to participate in athletics and other co-curricular activities. It is the feeling of Buffett’s teachers, coaches, and administrators that students have a primary obligation to complete their schoolwork to the best of their abilities and to behave appropriately while in school before considering athletics and co-curricular activities.
Eligibility requirements in the area of scholarship are consistent with the guidelines for promotion that are stated in the Secondary Student Code of Conduct. To be eligible to compete in inter-school athletic activities, a student-athlete must be passing all courses. Interested students may try out for inter-school athletic activities (a yearly physical examination for athletics, proof of insurance, parent consent, and purchase of a Buffett Magnet Middle School Student Activity Card are required).
After school athletic practices will conclude by 4:30 (unless there is an away game). Two late bus runs will occur after school. The activity bus will depart at 3:40 p.m. and the athletic late bus departs at 4:40 p.m.
