My role as a school counselor is to contribute to the students’ academic success. I deliver a guidance curriculum to all students through a variety of activities related to the academic, personal/social, and career areas of their lives.
School counselors are an integral part of the school team. They work with families and collaborate with community agencies and businesses to provide opportunities for students. We consult with teachers and families to encourage students to achieve in all aspects of education.
Counselors assist individual students who have unique needs, including those who may be experiencing barriers to academic success. Our comprehensive guidance program is both proactive and responsive to the individual needs of all students.
A few of the topics we cover with the students are:
Increase self awareness
Learn ways to respect others
Learn ways to resolve conflict
Develop problem solving strategies
Practice interpersonal skills
Practice positive decision-making skills
Develop and use good study skills
Investigate a variety of career plans
Develop realistic career goals
Keep post secondary options open
