Descriptive Writing:

The writing portion of the class is focused on descriptive writing this year.

Students write five paragraph essays in this class.  They work on

introductions, three body paragraphs, and conclusions.  All of the students

are using the four-square writing model and utilizing sensory charts.

Everyone has been working extremely hard to improve upon their six traits

of writing skills and prepare for the State Writing Tests.  The students

work on descriptive writing in all of their classes here at Bryan Middle

School and it really shows when the test results come back.  It is a school

wide effort!

The first Writing test is done and now we are anxiously awaiting the results!

Reading and Discussion :

When the class is not working on writing, they spend much of their time

reading stories and discussing pertinent issues.  We do hands-on activities,

read plays and work in literature circles.  The class will be prepared to

successfully pass all six of their CRTs as well.   We will work through many

issues by doing mock-trials, holding a poetry coffee house and having many

classroom discussions.  Some of the many topics this year will be Lizzy

Borden, the Holocaust, the Trail of Tears,  Edgar Allen Poe,  Poetry, all in

addition to descriptive writing.  It should be an interesting and enjoyable

year.
