Happy Holidays!
7th Grade Chorus
Minimize

Chorus is a fun and exciting class that provides opportunities for select students to perform, make lasting friendships, develop new skills, and become more confident overall. This class focuses on improving vocal quality, breathing techniques, and excercises that lead to team work in a group setting. We study a wide variety of music, which includes all cultures, building our students' awareness of differences in society and the importance of educating ourselves, bringing us closer through our common language.....music!

When joining Chorus, it is important to dedicate yourself to attending the 2 concerts per school year. Our Holiday concert is in December, and our Spring concert is in May. The students' grade depends on the attendance of these concerts since it is these concerts that we work towards. We feel that the best assessment for a Chorus grade would be through performance.

Content Standards for Chorus

01 Demonstrate basic vocal technique

02 Identify symbols and musical language

03 Sight read basic rhythm patterns

04 Sight sing basic melodic patterns

7th-8th Grade Music Explorations
Minimize

Music Explorations is a wonderful class for students who would like to learn more about the history of music, important concepts used in music, and apply them in fun activities and games throughout the school year. In 7th grade, students will learn about World Music and the importance of music in other cultures world-wide. They will also learn to read music notes and become more rhythmically involved in the classroom setting. The 8th graders learn American History music, notation, and rhythm. Although this class is not a performance group, singing is a small portion of the syllabus and participation is strongly encouraged! Written quizzes, tests, and listening journals will be a percentage of the students' grade, as well as participation in activities.

I recommend this class to those who do not plan on taking an instrumental or vocal class.

Music Explorations Content Standards

01 Evaluate basic vocal technique

02 Identify symbols and music language

03 Evaluate basic rhythm patterns

04 identify the role of music in today's society
