This is a reminder that breakfast begins at 7:10 A.M. and is FREE for all students.
 
Thank you for dropping off your student by 7:30 A.M., so that he/she will be sitting in the designated seat before the tardy bell rings at 7:40, with planner, books, school supplies, and homework, in addition to a positive attitude and a desire to learn.

The Role of the Middle School Guidance Counselor

The Middle School Guidance Counselors' role is to deliver a comprehensive guidance program that contributes to the academic success of all students.  The program is proactive and responsive to the unique needs of individual students.  Age appropriate competencies are taught using a variety of lessons and methods.  The curriculum is delivered through a variety of activities related to Academic- Educational Development, Personal-Social Development, and Career-Occupational Development (see details below).

Middle School Guidance Counselors are an integral part of the school team, consulting with teachers and various school and community personnel, working with families to encourage students to achieve in all aspects of education, and assisting students with a variety of large and small groups.  Middle School Guidance Counselors also collaborate with community agencies and businesses to provide opportunities for students.

Counseling Domains
CAREER/OCCUPATIONAL DEVELOPMENT   Mrs. Lemon
Middle School Guidance Counselors guide all students through self-awareness and career activities to formulate and identify realistic career goals, and deliver a variety of career awareness activities. Students learn to do the following: Identify skills, abilities, strengths, and interests as they relate to career choices; identify and explore a variety of career options; relate current learning to career opportunities; select courses consistent with career plans; identify skills and personal qualities necessary for getting and keeping a job. While in middle school, students begin to complete a secondary school Career/Education Planning Portfolio.   
 
Middle School Guidance Counselors guide all students to focus on self-awareness, relationship building, and respect for self and others. Students do all of the following: Develop skills to manage anger and stress; learn ways to resolve conflict; practice interpersonal skills; develop problem-solving strategies; build and maintain friendships; and learn ways to access adult assistance. 
 
Through the guidance curriculum and individual planning activities, Middle School Guidance Counselors guide students to be academically successful and to be prepared for high school and beyond. Students learn to do the following: Develop and demonstrate good listening skills; develop and demonstrate good study skills; identify and use effective time-management skills; practice positive decision-making skills; set present and future goals; plan for advanced education opportunities. 
How School Counseling Programs Are Delivered
CURRICULUM 
The Comprehensive Competency-Based Guidance (CCBG) Curriculum lessons are designed and delivered to all students for achievement of knowledge and skills in the areas of Academic/Educational Development, Personal/Social Development and Career/ Occupational Development.

There is Individual Career and Educational Student Planning for every student, that developmentally helps students plan for their future, manage conflict, prepare for advanced education, strengthen academic skills, and more.

RESPONSE SERVICES  
The Response Services component meets the immediate needs of students and their families. Students receive individual and small group counseling, crisis counseling, mediation and peer facilitation. Students and their parents receive consultation, referrals to community agencies, and more.

SUPPORT SYSTEMS  
The System Support component recognizes the school counselor as part of the school team, and it supports and enhances the other three components. It includes professional development, consultation, collaboration, and teaming as well as school improvement involvement, data gathering and interpretation, family involvement, and community outreach.
