Looking at the Holocaust Through Different Eyes:

A Webquest...

 

 

 

 

 

 


     I.  Task

       Each group will research a topic of the Holocaust through five different perspectives.  The goal is to  look at each piece of this historic tragedy from all sides, compare it to what is going on in the world  today, and find ways to stop it from ever happening again.  The finished product will be a compilation of each group member's interpretation in order to create an inspiring visual and oral presentation.

            * Children and Teens

          VI.  Guidelines 

1.  When you know what topic your group will be researching, and you also know from what perspective your focus is, visit all four primary websites and their links to get an idea of what you would like to tell your audience or what you think your audience might like to know. 

2.  As you find information that you think is useful for your perspective and your topic, jot down a few notes.  Make sure you are ONLY looking at information from your perspective (i.e.If you have Jewish Resistance as your topic, and your perspective is Bystander, only look for information from that point of view).  Make sure you write down any website address from which you take even one line of information.  Copy the entire address from the bar at the top of the page.

3. From these preliminary notes, you should be able to come up with three subtopics about which to focus your research.  Write these subtopics on the top of three different sheets of paper.  From now on, keep all notes separate from each other.

4.  Research to gather enough supporting information from which to create your project.   Again, make sure you write down any website address you use.  See #2 if you have questions.

5.  Make sure you are not copying notes word-for-word from sources.  Notes must be put into your own words.

6.  Choose one of the websites you used, and fill out a Website Evaluation Form for it.  OMIT THE SUMMARIES IN PART ONE AND TWO.

7.  After sharing information with your group, when putting together your project, you will need to go back to the "Pyramid of Hate", look at what you found in your research and decide on the answers to the following questions:

A.  Why should we remember the Holocaust?  Could it happen again? Is it happening today?  Should the U. S. help?

B.  Could the Holocaust happen here in the U. S.?  How can we prevent it from happening here?  What's already happening?  What about our schools?  Do you see anything on the Pyramid of Hate in your school?

 

VII.  Putting it Together

 

1.  After your group has researched of the points of view of your topic, you need to get together to create your end product.  A bibliography of your sources and one Website Evaluation Form per group member will have to be handed in at the time of your presentation.

2.  Below are some suggestions.  If you have a different idea, check with your teacher before proceeding.

A.  Podcast

B.  Powerpoint Presentation

C.  IMovie or movie via Windows Moviemaker

D.  Typed Research Paper (Each group member reads his or her portion; there must be an accompanying visual.)

E.  Skit or set of monologues

F.  Panel Discussion

G.  Debate among the group members from the different points of view

H.  Webpage (if you already have experience in webpage design)

VIII. Conclusion

 

1.  You will have the following ready at the time your group has been assigned to present:

A.  Group Project

B.  Typed Bibliography from each group member

C.  One Website Evaluation Form from each group member

D.  One Participation Evaluation from each group member (evaluates how each group member, including self, contributed to end product)
