South High Alumni - Omaha Public Schools
Sports Facilities Improvements Planned
Minimize

A place to call “HOME” for the first time in over 50 years!

*****Scheduled to open August 2009*****

While South High School has flourished as an educational institution, our athletic facilities need to be expanded and improved to attract more students to play sports and participate in physical activities, as well as to attract visitors to South Omaha.  Following the successful completion of Central High School’s Seemann Stadium, Heritage Services, a local non-profit organization, was asked to partner again with Omaha Public Schools to oversee the construction and secure additional private funding for a new Packer Stadium. Currently, our athletes travel across two major highways for home games. The new stadium will provide a safe and visually pleasing sports complex for our students and visitors, and be perceived as a “community” asset to provide facilities for other local sports programs and community events. The new design includes: a regulation soccer/football field with seating for up to 3200, running track, natural terraced amphitheater, expanded parking, tennis courts, main entrance plaza, landscaping, and visitor and home auxiliary buildings for concessions, restrooms, and team meeting rooms. Holland-Basham Architects is designing the new stadium, directed by Tim Holland who is a South High School graduate. The facility is being built by Kiewit Building Group, Inc.

South Omaha is experiencing rapid growth and redevelopment efforts are underway throughout the entire area which will help attract visitors from all parts of the city. South High School is a great educational influence as the Omaha Public School’s Information and Technology and Visual/Performing Arts Magnet High School. It has been proven time and time again that extracurricular or physical activity complements the educational mission of our schools in a positive way. Now, South High will have new athletic facilities to continue supporting and encouraging a well-rounded educational experience, while giving the school and the community an exceptional place to gather and enjoy all the benefits a new stadium has to offer.
