To further support the Omaha Public Schools' (OPS) Strategic Plan, the OPS Board of Education is currently reviewing the district's Student Assignment Plan. The purpose of a Student Assignment Plan is to determine which schools a student may choose and attend. The Student Assignment Plan also sets the rules for transporting students to and from school.

As an OPS parent, it is very important that your opinions on this topic be considered.

To gather your viewpoints, OPS has created a survey available on the district website. The survey is available in both Spanish and English and only takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.  The link on the OPS website will be available until July 7th. Your opinions are critical and will help to inform the Board of Education as they explore potential changes to the Student Assignment Plan.

Thank you for your support and continued participation in OPS.

Important Note Regarding 2015 High School Graduations

Please note that OPS is setting a limit of four tickets per graduating senior family for the 2015 high school graduation season.

This is a temporary move necessitated by the closing of the Civic Auditorium -- our longtime graduation venue -- and the subsequent transfer of our commencement activities to UNO's Sapp Fieldhouse.  As you are aware, the Fieldhouse's seating capacity is far less than that of the Civic.  With that in mind, it will be impossible for our high schools to offer the large numbers of tickets they have in the past.

As of now, the four-ticket-per-family policy will only apply to high school graduations during 2015.  The number of tickets per family may be expanded in 2016, when commencement activities are scheduled to be moved into the brand-new arena currently being built for UNO near 67th & Center.  We hope to have more details about that at a later date.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

As always, thanks for your support of OPS.
