"The secret to film is that it's an illusion."
- George Lucas
About Our Program:
One of the only high school film programs of its kind, our program both examines the history of film, and explores new techniques in the film making process. Using our new state-of-the-art film lab, featuring new iMac G5 computers and professional-grade editing software, students produce and submit films to local and national film festivals.
The curriculum is based around the film program from the Kennedy Center of the Arts and incorporates production elements used in film programs such as NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. The film program also works closely with Film Streams to provide South students with the opportunity to experience and discuss film as art with other members of the local film community.
The advanced level of the film program allows students to experiment with techniques in animation and visual effects. Students develop films from initial concepts, create treatments and storyboards, plan shooting schedules, cast actors, and shoot their films on-location. With soundtrack software, professional-level DVD creation software, and super drive DVD burners, students are able to author completely original pieces of film.
